Lawrence Jackson
Lawrence M. Jackson, MFA, is the Director of Dance at the University of Alabama and the Artistic Director of Alabama Repertory Dance Theatre. Jackson has choreographed over 75 original works for the concert stage. Most recently, Lawrence choreographed an off Broadway production, Separate and Equal, which premiered at Theater 59E59 in September 2018. Jackson serves as the Executive Director for The American Dance Company Experience (TADCE). TADCE was designed to provide affordable and accessible professional dance training opportunities that will prepare Dance Artists to transition and establish themselves in the professional world as performers, choreographers, and educators in American Dance. As a scholar, Jackson has published in many scholarly journals in the field of Black Dance. Most recently, he co-edited and published a special edition devoted to Black Dance in the Journal of Pan African Studies.This edition marked the second occurrence in history, where an academic journal edition was committed solely to Black Dance. Jackson serves as Faculty Advisor to Dance Alabama! He received funding from the Alabama Touring Artists Program to tour Dance Alabama concerts throughout several rural counties within Alabama. Lawrence also serves as a Faculty Mentor for the Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity Conference, is a member of the Alabama Dance Council Board, University of Alabama Faculty Senate, International Association of Blacks in Dance, Grant Reviewer for the Alabama Arts Council and the National Endowment for the Arts.
